Every year, the Ministry of Ecological Transition brings together the French Greentech ecosystem at its annual Meet’Up: startups, SMEs, large corporations, investors, local authorities, and more. This year, the Meet’Up was held entirely in person. The Meet’Up opened on October 5th with speeches by the Minister of Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili, and the Secretary of State for Digital Transition and Electronic Communications, Cédric O.It was an opportunity to announce several new developments: First, Ms. Pompili presented the 32 new startups accredited by the Ministry. >>

From now on, GreenTech Verte is renamed “Greentech Innovation,” which aims to recognize innovative and high-potential projects from startups and SMEs to accelerate the implementation of ecological transition policies. The Ministry of Ecological Transition’s GreenTech Innovation initiative has so far selected 190 startups and SMEs with high-potential innovative projects. Barbara Pompili then highlighted the challenges of innovation in the service of the ecological transition, as well as the contributions of digital technology to citizens and the ecological transition. She then announced the relaunch of a new Greentech Innovation call for applications and the establishment of a national network of Greentech incubators.
Cédric O highlighted the challenges of digital technology in terms of energy consumption and the consumption of natural resources, rare metals, etc. He praised the development of innovations in the service of digital technology and the reduction of ecological impacts, such as the newly certified Greenly, including by contributing to changing behaviors.
He then praised the Next40 and FrenchTech120 companies, about ten of which are specifically focused on Greentech. They are working to reduce digital impacts and bring both social and environmental meaning to their work. He invited everyone to discuss digital and environmental issues on October 8, 2020, at Bercy. Afterwards, one of our keynote speakers, Philippe Zaouati, CEO of Mirova, spoke about mobilizing financing to support the ecological transition. Savers have been discouraged on this topic in the past: until now, no one has advised them on ethical investing. However, the health of companies is closely linked to the health of the society in which they operate. He discussed the challenges of implementing tools to help mobilize green financing, such as France Transition Écologique. He emphasized that innovative sectors in Greentech that support the ecological transition are extremely promising. During the recent COVID crisis, responsible funds performed much better than sectors based on the use of fossil fuels.
Investors have now understood that greentech is the savings champion of tomorrow. Moreover, the latest European directives require tax advisors to inform savers of the CSR impact of their investments. and
Bertrand Piccard , President of the Solar Impulse Foundation, highlighted the current, completely irreversible shift toward renewable energy: in recent years, investments in renewable energy have become much more profitable than fossil fuels. We must support this movement in all sectors and support innovations at the technical, decision-making, and psychological levels so that citizens want to embrace this ecological transition. Philippe Zaouati opened the first Round Table Discussion, “Innovating in Greentech Financing: A Lever to Address the Ecological Emergency,” with Thomas Cottinet, CEO of Ecolab, as Moderator, alongside Olivier Dupont, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Demeter Partners, who highlighted Demeter’s investment history since 2004 and 15 years of green energy investment, and Anne-Claire Roux, Managing Director of Finance for Tomorrow. Finally, Grégory Grellet, Project Director of France Transition Écologique, presented the challenges of financing the ecological transition, which motivated the creation of France Transition Écologique. Greentech Innovation Afterwards, Olivier Dupont presented the “Investors’ Favorite” award to the startup Gouach, a renewable battery operator.
A second roundtable discussion on “Greentech: A Pillar of Mobility Adaptation to the Health Crisis” opened with moderators Cécile Lagache, Deputy Director of the Digital Innovation and Territories Mission, DGITM, Rémi Bastien, President of the Mov’eo competitiveness cluster, Brice Bohuon, Deputy Director of Transdev France, and Thomas Côte, CEO of Wever.
