Can you introduce yourself?

vorteX.io was founded in 2019 and is headquartered in Toulouse. We offer a real-time hydrological measurement service using innovative remote sensing instruments inspired by space.

For those who are unfamiliar with you, can you explain how your service directly aligns with the Ministry’s public policies? The vorteX.io service aims to address the challenges of the Ministry of Ecological Transition by strengthening the monitoring system for waterways that contribute to flood risk in France. Indeed, in 2015, the General Commission for Territorial Equality (CGET) estimated that 30% of French municipalities were subject to a medium level of exposure to climate change and 16% to a high level of exposure.

The magnitude and frequency of natural disasters, such as floods and cyclones, are increasing in many areas due to environmental changes, including climate change. In the future, the human and financial toll of such disasters will be very high for the affected areas if they are insufficiently prepared. Given the growing collective costs of implementing large-scale protection solutions for populations exposed to extreme hazards, the question of how to prevent and anticipate such phenomena arises, as we ultimately cannot directly contain or stop them. Regarding flooding in France, there are currently 13,000 contributing waterways that remain to be equipped across the country. What have been your recent successes in implementing your project?

vorteX.io is currently deploying an initial constellation of 100 sensors across the Occitanie region to demonstrate the robustness and reliability of its operational service. It is also currently collaborating with the French Space Agency (CNES), Predict, and water stakeholders in France to double the current monitoring network (Vigicrues) by the end of 2022, adding 3,000 new measurement points. Vortex What are the upcoming challenges your startup/SME may face?

The difficulty for vorteX.io, which provides a concrete response to the need for dedicated real-time water monitoring and population prevention, lies mainly in the responsiveness of public entities to support our development and embrace new business models such as SaaS platform service offerings.
