Glossary – Greentech

glossaire GreenTech

Combining the terms “Green” and “Tech,” Greentech encompasses all stakeholders using new technologies to support the ecological transition. Whether they are companies, incubators, or investors, these stakeholders share the same ambition to foster new lifestyles that are more respectful of both people and the environment.

The term emerged in the 2000s in the United States, when major American groups such as Clean Edge highlighted the negative and growing impact of humankind on the planet. Awareness quickly grew and spread beyond the country’s borders. Greentech now takes on its full meaning: it illustrates the intersection of technology and the ecological transition. Priorities

Although the term Greentech is recent, it now occupies an important place in our society and concerns a multitude of stakeholders and sectors: food and agriculture, construction, industrial decarbonization, water, biodiversity, the circular economy, renewable and low-carbon energies, sustainable finance, maritime innovation, sustainable mobility, eco-responsible digital technology, CSR practices, risk prevention, health, etc.

Challenges

Putting innovation, digital technology, and data at the service of the ecological transition to reduce human impact on the planet;

  • Relying on startups for new solutions with high growth potential, while involving other stakeholders in society;
  • Boosting a promising economic sector for the industry of tomorrow;
  • Coordinating Greentech initiatives internationally.
  • Actions of the Ministry of Ecological Transition

The Ministry of Ecological Transition aims to encourage Greentech projects through the Greentech Innovation initiative. Since 2016, the goal has been to select innovative projects from French startups and SMEs based on ambitious, innovative, and sustainable methodologies, technologies, services, or industrial solutions. In addition to benefiting from the Greentech Innovation label, these companies can benefit from comprehensive and structured support: visibility, access to strategic data, meetings with investors, participation in professional events, etc.
