Discover the Lyon Confluence Monitoring System platform designed by UrbanThink as part of the ASCEND project, funded by the European Commission.
Among its objectives: to build only buildings that produce more energy than they consume. Appointed to lead a consortium of 8 winning cities, SPL Lyon Confluence will coordinate the local partners involved in the construction of this new district.
It is within this framework that UrbanThink intervenes. The company was selected following a call for tenders issued by the consortium’s contractor, Urban Practices.
UrbanThink is a winner of the latest Greentech Innovation promotion. It is an agile land management solution to support the transition to more sustainable neighborhoods. It is adaptable to dynamic data and the Internet of Things, thus enriching its catalog of decision-making support criteria.
In response to the expectations expressed by the European Commission to demonstrate that it is possible to create a positive energy district, UrbanThink developed a platform aimed at real-time data tracking and proving the feasibility of the project through a digital twin created over 150ha and 1.3M m² of floor area. It enriched its detailed 3D model of the Confluence district with the latest building data as well as contextual information, including vegetation and energy sources.
Thanks to the platform:
- Navigate through an updated model of the Confluence area, enriched with data from UrbanThink and various open data sources.
- Measure lengths, heights, and areas, and simulate natural light and shadows for better urban planning.
- Analyze energy consumption and production in real-time, with features allowing filtering and comparison of data between buildings and urban areas.
- Understand how metropolitan authorities ensure the accuracy and completeness of the data.
- Discover how sensor data on electricity, water, air quality, and temperature will enhance live monitoring capabilities.

The development of the platform has opened several opportunities for UrbanThink Platform in the area:
- A use case on energy completed in October;
- A use case on mobility planned for next year.
Come meet them!
The UrbanThink teams will be present at the Smart Cities congress in Barcelona, at the European Commission’s booth, from November 5 to 7, 2024. UrbanThink will participate on November 7 from 1 PM to 2 PM in a roundtable dedicated to the urban digital twin.
