Sustainable Buildings and Cities

ORUS ENERGY
Orus Energy, a startup specializing in electrical flexibility, helps and compensates commercial building managers such as Ikea, La Poste Immobilier, and Vinci to consume their electricity more efficiently and at the best times. They thus contribute to balancing the electricity grid, replacing peak gas and coal-fired power plants.
Orus Energy is developing an electrical flexibility platform that allows commercial building managers to seamlessly shift their flexible electricity consumption away from voltage peaks, along with the associated economic recovery service, which compensates them up to €1/m²/year for their contribution to balancing the electricity grid. This solution combines economic gains and carbon impact through one-off actions on the power demand of heating and air conditioning equipment, or electric vehicle charging stations, avoiding the use of peak fossil-fuel power plants. This solution is easy and free of charge, using existing management systems.

Founded in 2022, Netcarbon is a 13-person French startup developing innovative technologies to accelerate the ecological transition. Using AI and satellite data, we help public and private stakeholders manage and assess the environmental impact of their development projects.
Netcarbon is a digital solution that enables local authorities, developers, and real estate companies to measure, simulate, and certify the environmental impact of their development projects. Using very high-resolution satellite imagery and artificial intelligence, Netcarbon analyzes key indicators such as carbon sequestration, heat islands, biodiversity, and land take.

The solution offers a comparative before/after project approach, making it possible to objectify the environmental benefits of an operation, guide design choices (vegetation, materials, permeability, etc.), and promote actions carried out with a view to ecological transition, reporting, or certification. Netcarbon is already used by several large local authorities (Paris, Bordeaux Métropole, etc.), real estate companies, and developers to better manage their sustainable development projects. Compatible with existing standards such as the Low Carbon Tree-lined City Label, the solution provides concrete support for decision-making and environmental communication.

Decarbonization of Industry

PACKGY
PackGy offers industrial decarbonization solutions at competitive cost-effective prices. Our initial market will be the food industry, but our technological foundation extends far beyond this.
- For 2025/2026, PackGy’s offering is focused on two independent but complementary products: A patented latent thermal storage system with a capacity of approximately twenty hours of charging for high discharge power (0 to 2 MW) at a constant temperature of 0°C or -11°C.
- With a CAPEX target of < €45/kWh, this storage will, among many other advantages, allow us to take advantage of the lasting volatility of electricity prices.
- A highly energy-efficient (electric) reversible thermo-refrigerator pump that produces cooling (>-25°C) and heating (<140°C) and plugs into existing machine rooms using thermal storage. Our patented Hydro/CO2 piston technology will halve the energy consumption of industrial sites and reduce associated GHG emissions by a factor of five, all with an ROI of <5 years.
Based on this technological foundation, an ORC module is planned for 2027.

PLASTIC VORTEX
PLASTIC VORTEX is a mission-driven company that works at the source in our rivers and streams, where plastic pollution originates. Through field studies, targeted dams, and citizen actions, it is deploying a concrete response. The objective: to intercept 80% of macro-waste before it flows into our seas and oceans.
The PLASTIC VORTEX project aims to prevent plastic, including specific non-domestic waste (SDW), as well as glass, metals, and other materials, from entering the seas and oceans. Our patented systems, which are resistant to river flooding, automatically collect river waste, dump it into a bin located on the riverbank, sort it, and send it to various waste recovery facilities. Our goal is to install 31 barriers located at strategic locations across France to capture more than 70% of the macro-waste polluting our main waterways before it reaches our seas and oceans. In addition, we organize characterization studies on floating waste as well as awareness-raising activities for local stakeholders, including the general public.

ELAX ENERGY
Elax Energie transforms the water heaters of social housing tenants into smart devices to reduce their energy consumption. The result: more purchasing power for tenants, lower CO2 emissions, and a longer equipment lifespan. A simple solution for a more energy-efficient and sustainable home.
With more than 14 million water heaters already installed in France, 70% of which consume too much energy, these devices are an unsuspected source of energy savings. By equipping them with a smart thermostat that controls their indoor temperature, Elax Energie’s solution reduces consumption by an average of 25%, extends the lifespan of water heaters by four years, and supports the electricity grid through load balancing. Installed in 20 minutes, the Elax Energie control unit will control the heating temperature inside the water heater, adapting to the needs of residents and thus avoiding overconsumption. The automatic control operates on two levels:
- Lowering the set temperature to match residents’ actual needs
- Shifting consumption to times when energy is less carbon-intensive (for example, at night, when wind turbines are operating at high capacity) by leveraging the flexibility of the electricity grid.
Already installed on more than 32,000 water heaters, the solution continues to be deployed on a large scale.
