Launch of AMELIA: a frugal AI at the service of sustainable territories

On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the public territorial establishment Paris Est Marne & Bois hosted the official launch of AMELIACartography of Mobility and the Environment for Territorial Planning. This ambitious project marks a major advancement in monitoring air and noise pollution through dynamic, precise, and real-time updated maps.

A frugal AI to transform local public policies

Designed to address the growing challenges of urban quality of life and ecological transition, AMELIA relies on a frugal artificial intelligence: efficient, resource-saving, and centered on territorial utility.

This innovative technology is based on:

  • Environmental data collection via IoT sensors and satellite imagery,
  • Processing by artificial intelligence and modeling of mobility flows,
  • Production of high-resolution maps in real time,
  • A decision support interface to guide local public policies.

Meaningful data for informed decisions

Some key figures illustrate the scope of the issue:

  • 13 local authorities involved in the deployment of AMELIA,
  • 85% of residents in Île-de-France exposed to poor air quality,
  • 48% of noise disturbances linked to urban mobility.

AMELIA allows for the visualization of these issues in a concrete way, with several use cases:

  • Decision support for managing traffic and urban planning policies,
  • Automatic detection of areas exceeding regulatory thresholds,
  • Impact monitoring of implemented actions,
  • Early alerts to anticipate pollution or disturbance peaks.

A project supported by the State and rooted locally

Winner of the France 2030 – DIAT call for projects, AMELIA is the result of a committed consortium in ecological transition, composed of:

  • Paris Est Marne & Bois (pilot community),
  • WaltR (technology company),
  • IFPEN, Bruitparif and Gustave Eiffel University (scientific and technical experts).

The Living-Lab Greentech of Paris Est Marne & Bois, which hosts WaltR, has been a true catalyst for the creation of the consortium. By bringing together public actors, researchers, and innovators, this place facilitates the emergence of concrete solutions and their anchoring in the territories.

A concrete response to the challenges of tomorrow

By combining technological innovation, a frugal approach, and shared governance, AMELIA is fully committed to building more sustainable, intelligent, and resilient communities.
